Why should I choose composite bonding?

Composite bonding treatment is increasingly popular with patients looking for a fast, pain free and non invasive smile transformation. The composite material is able to mimic natural tooth enamel and be colour matched to your existing teeth, or used in your desired shade, to achieve a highly aesthetic result.

As the composite is applied to the surface of your natural tooth, none of the enamel structure needs to be removed to make way for treatment. It is built up in layers, enabling your dentist to craft the perfect digitally designed shape and size you are expecting.

What does composite bonding treatment involve?

If you are interested in treatment, we begin by discussing your ideal results, ensuring we know what you would like to achieve from treatment. We take digital scans and images of your teeth, which we use to design your new smile. We can even create a digital preview of your proposed results for you to check you are happy with.

Using temporary dental material, we try your new smile in your mouth, allowing you to see what it will look like in place. We make any tweaks and adjustments until you are completely happy and ready to move to the next stage of treatment.

We fit your new smile into place in just one appointment, applying the composite bonding material in layers and setting it to achieve the perfect transformation. Our dentists are highly skilled at shaping and finishing the teeth, covering any damage and achieving an incredible look.

Once your treatment is complete, we show you your beautiful new smile and give some advice on how to look after it. We can even show you your real life smile compared to the digital preview, so you can see just how accurate transformations are.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I look after my new composite smile?

The best and easiest way to look after your newly treated smile is to maintain a great oral hygiene routine at home, including brushing and flossing twice a day. The composite is securely bonded onto your teeth, but it is wise to take care when biting into or chewing particularly hard foods to avoid any damage.

  • Is composite bonding treatment painful?

No, composite bonding is not at all painful. In fact, it is one of the most comfortable dental procedures available, as the composite material is gradually applied to the surface of your tooth and no drilling or removal of tooth enamel is required.

  • What can composite bonding be used for?

We can use composite bonding treatment to achieve either a small change or a total smile transformation. It can be used to close small gaps, correct irregular spacing, improve worn teeth, cover small areas of damage or even brighten discoloured teeth. It is a very effective way to achieve fully bespoke, predictable and digitally designed results.

  • How long will composite bonding last on my teeth?

In most cases, you can expect your composite bonding to last around seven years, depending on how well it is looked after. Composite can become chipped, but small areas of damage are able to be easily repaired.

  • Can composite bonding material become stained?

Composite can become stained, but the level of staining is usually less than in a natural tooth. You may find it becomes slightly dull or discoloured if you drink a lot of dark or strong coloured food and drinks, including tea, coffee, red wine and curry, or if you are a smoker. It is important to note that composite is not affected by teeth whitening treatment.
