Dental Implants

An incredibly strong, stable and aesthetic solution for missing teeth

If you’re looking for an innovative, secure and truly natural looking way to replace one or more missing teeth, dental implants could be the answer. They are highly advanced and a modern, permanent way to fill the gaps in your smile. Implants create a fixed new tooth root, using titanium posts fixed into your jawbone to support the crown placed on top.

Why choose dental implants?

Dental implants are the next best thing to natural teeth, popular with patients for their ability to provide supportive replacement teeth for life. They replicate the look, feel and function of your existing teeth, fitting seamlessly in your smile without the need to worry the implant will slip or become loose while you go about your normal daily routines.

We always advise to replace a missing tooth, to provide much needed support to your remaining teeth as well as boosting your confidence. A gap in your smile can cause your gum to shrink through lack of stimulation, leading to your face shape losing much-needed structure and giving space for your existing natural teeth to move out of position. Implants remove these worries, and also positively affect the way you eat, speak and feel.

How can dental implants help me?

Dental implants give a much needed boost to your self esteem, allow you to eat with confidence and help you feel great about showing off the smile you deserve once more. If you are a suitable candidate for implants, there will be a type to suit you.

A single implant can be used to create a strong and durable replacement tooth, able to withstand chewing pressures and look just like your existing teeth. If you have more than one missing tooth, we can use strategically placed implants to support a dental bridge or several single implants if the teeth are not adjacent. Dental implants also offer a full arch option, and can anchor a denture securely into place to give you back a full smile.

What does dental implant treatment involve?

1

Consultation

We initially carry out a full thorough examination and assessment of your teeth and gums, making sure you are suitable for implants. We discuss the treatment with you, including estimated cost and timeframe, and give you the chance to ask us anything.

2

Planning

We take scans and images of your mouth using our advanced digital equipment, and use these to accurately plan the optimal positions for your implants. If any preparatory treatment is needed, such as a bone graft, this is arranged.

3

Placement

We use local anaesthetic to minimise your discomfort as we place the titanium implant into your jaw. Once fitted, the implant takes around 3-6 months to heal and create a strong bond with the bone. We therefore protect your gum during healing with a temporary tooth.

4

Complete

When your implant has fully healed and fused, we invite you back to the practice and fit your final crown to complete your smile. We make sure you are happy with the look and feel and give you some advice on how to look after your new restoration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is dental implant treatment painful?

You shouldn’t feel any pain during dental implant treatment, as we use local anaesthetic to help you feel comfortable and relaxed. You will likely experience some discomfort after treatment, but this will be temporary and can be effectively managed with pain relief as advised by your dentist.

  • What are the benefits of dental implants?

The many benefits of dental implants include:
    - Incredibly strong, secure and natural looking
    - Blend seamlessly into your smile
    - Can be used to replace missing teeth in any part of the mouth
    - Fitted with no detrimental effects to your healthy natural teeth
    - Highly advanced restoration using innovative technology

  • How long does dental implant treatment take?

The dental implant process, from missing teeth to stable fixed replacements, is lengthy and can take several months to complete. The surgery itself is relatively quick, but a lot of time is needed to allow the implant to properly heal and fuse to your jawbone. Your fixed permanent teeth can then be designed, created and fitted. Your new smile will definitely be worth the time and effort in the end!

  • Will other people be able to tell I have dental implants?

No-one will be able to see you have an implant fitted unless you choose to tell them yourself! Implants look, feel and function exactly like natural teeth, and we take care to match the shape and colour of your remaining teeth to create a crown that perfectly blends into your smile.

  • How do I keep my dental implants clean?

You should treat your dental implants just like natural teeth, and include them in your normal oral hygiene routine. Your implants are invulnerable to decay or cavities, but you will still need to brush and floss to keep the gum surrounding the implant healthy and problem-free.

  • Is it hard to talk with dental implants in?

You may actually find it easier! As your implants are fused to your jawbone and the replacement teeth securely supported, you shouldn’t have any trouble speaking and may find your speech becomes clearer once the gap in your teeth has been filled.

  • How long do dental implants last?

Your dental implants have the potential to last a lifetime if they are looked after correctly. This includes maintaining an excellent brushing and flossing routine, looking after your general health and making sure you have regular check up appointments with your dentist. The crown affixed on top of your implant may need to be replaced over time due to natural wear and tear.
